Guests decide what kind of party they have entered before they see the food. Choose one clear entrance treatment rather than spreading a few decorations across every room. Stretch web around the door frame or porch rail, then use a window decoration at eye level to give people one obvious focal point.

Keep the actual doorway, steps and handle clear. Decorations should frame the route rather than create a trip or visibility problem. If children are arriving after dark, preserve enough light to see the threshold.

Normal bright ceiling lights flatten Halloween decorations. Switch off the main light and create one deliberate effect on a plain wall, ceiling or curtain. A scene projector can change a large area without buying a large prop.

Test the position before guests arrive: competing room light, surface colour and distance all affect how clear an image looks. Keep cables against a wall and away from drinks or walking routes. If a projector is not in budget, use lamps you already own and place orange tissue or fabric nearby—but never directly over a hot bulb.

A coordinated table creates more impact than five unrelated novelty pieces. For ten guests, start with one cup and one plate per person, two napkins per person, one table covering and at least two shared bowls. Do not hang decorations from light fittings, smoke alarms or emergency exits. Use the room’s existing picture hooks or suitable removable fixings, and keep strings above head height but within reach for safe removal.

Give guests one reason to participate. It can be a photo corner, a blindfold-free “guess the object” game, a pumpkin-vote station or glow bracelets handed out when the lights change.
